It's Christmas time!! If you haven't guessed it, tablescapes are our favorite. They are so much fun to put together. This time around, we want to let the pictures speak a little more for themselves. Candles, rosemary, cranberries, dried oranges, old china, Leland cypress... so many wonderful hints of Christmas!! The centerpiece for this tablescape were the streamers of fresh cranberries, dried oranges, rosemary, and cinnamon. We strung a piece of bamboo up and used fishing line to hang the streamers alternating between the different elements. The final result was a magical candlelit dinner perfect for Christmas Eve. The runner was a mix of greenery, floating candles, votives, and dried oranges. For the floating candles, we wrapped rosemary with twine and tied it over the mouth of a mason jar. Each jar we filled with water, fresh cranberries, and tea candles. It looked like a dream. We filled the rest of the space with tons of little tea lights which made the dinner magical! We hope your Christmas tables are merry and bright!

Hey there! We had originally written this blog post at the end of August! A lot has happened since then! The blog has been on the back board for a bit! What have we been doing since we last were here? Well there is always a lot going on around here. The family dog had 10 puppies this summer! You can see one of the cuties in this picture! They were a lot of fun to have around but have all found their own homes and family's now! Lucibeth took a road trip to New Mexico and then we both flew to Texas where I finally lived my dream to go to the Magnolia Silos in Waco. It did not disappoint. September, I started school back. And October Lucibeth launched her business! We're finally back now and excited to share a little project from August. I found this wardrobe/cabinet in an old house my family is fixing up. It needed a lot of love. It had good bones but was stuck in the 70s with red plastic drawer pulls and an awful finish. The mirrors were broken in the doors. We couldn't resist the urge to try and see what we could do with it. We should have snapped a picture of how we found it but here is the cabinet with the mirrors removed. It turned into quite the project and we made a few mistakes that we won't be repeating! The first step was to remove all of the hardware and drawers and sand down the old finish. We sanded it down with a course grit sandpaper and then a fine grit. We quickly found out we were working with some type of veneer with an old finish that had seen better days! Next we tightened some loose screws and reattached the base of the tall side of the wardrobe that had come loose. Once we had done all of the prep, we wiped it down with a wet rag and we were ready for paint! If this cabinet had been made with better quality wood, it would have looked lovely with a natural finish. However, we chose to help the piece by giving it a coat of paint. We wanted to keep it light and ended up choosing Graceful Gray by Behr. A quart in eggshell just covered the whole thing. We wanted to do something fun with this piece and replaced the broken mirror with clear glass and put a cheerful wallpaper in the back. The wallpaper was our second disaster! We were impatient and didn't have time to order any wallpaper plus we only needed a tiny bit so we figured cute patterned paper would be easy enough to turn into wallpaper, right? Wrong. It was a MESS. The pattern only repeated once since it was a big pattern. The small section took 5 - 12"x12" pieces to cover perfectly! With the big section we threw it out the window and tried our best to make it look cohesive without being perfect. It took WAY too long. All said and done, it would have been worth the investment of wallpaper (or even wrapping paper!!!) With new hardware and a new home, we love this piece.
Tablescapes are our favorite. We could write an entire blog on just tablescapes. We saw these orange wildflowers on the side of the road and have been eyeing them for weeks now and KNEW we had to make one more summer tablescape for y'all!! We pulled over on the side of a highway, climbed over patches of stickers, and suffered through all of the bug bites - but it was WORTH IT. I found these AMAZING blue dishes at a thrift store, which I'm literally shocked they were still there because they are stunning and hard to find. They are called Colonial Garden Blue by Metlox and I'm OBSESSED. Blue and white is a classic. Blue Willow or Blue Danube china sets are also classic options! We are SPOILED to have a neighbor that loves for us to come pick her eucalyptus. She's always asking when we're coming back by to get some more! Hattie's favorite way to use it is thick and draping. (She really nailed it here!!!) The Davis family's property is stunning. We set up this under the shed section of their barn. It overlooks their pond and fields behind their house. This dinner was set up for my Parents-in-law (Hattie's parents). It was high time we made them a fancy dinner like this. We made them a fancy Mediterranean style meal with chilled wine, and grilled peaches & ice cream for dessert. Now for the DETAILS!!! We based this tablescape off of the combo of the blue and white china and the orange flowers. We used blue napkins and blue striped placemats to carry the blue color from the dishes. The blue and white dishes paired with glass provide a classic and clean concept. The copper pulls from the bright orange tones from the flowers and the wood tones from the napkin rings and candle holders pull from the dark tones of the cowhide rugs underneath the table. Together, the colors and tones create a bright yet warm and moody vibe. This concept would be BEAUTIFUL for a wedding. Eucalyptus is very trendy in wedding floral right now. There are so many romantic vibes here!!! If you are going for the rustic / barn style wedding -- but want to keep it classy THIS IS FOR YOU. We are DIGGING this vibe. Lights, like these, are a great way to brighten up a dingy space. Honestly, this space is usually a storage space on the side of the barn that holds odds and ends. But liven it up with some lights and you have a party!! If you got inspiration from us, LET US KNOW in the comments below! We would love to get to know our followers! Also go check out the rest of the juicy details of this table on our Pinterest! You can find us @BarefootPoppies. Hey y'all!! Today we are excited to show you the beginning of what will be a BIG project. Hattie's family lives in an old stone house built in 1937. It used to be the main attraction for the community with its spring fed pool and a plant nursery that used to be on the land. Their house is FULL of character. We want to slowly make over parts of their house to showcase the beauty of the home. It will be a big project but we can't wait to show you all the unique features of the house. Check out this before and after!!
